FortiClient App for Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store
Follow this link, which should take you to the Microsoft store and the FortiClient app. If asked to "Sign me up" or login to a Microsoft account just close the message window as you do not need to do that to proceed. The browser screen should look similar to this after any pop-up windows are closed.
Click "Get" in the top right hand corner. The Microsoft Store will open; click "Get" again from this page:
If you see a screen stating "Use across your devices", just click "No Thanks"
The screen will go back to the option to "Get" again, but wait several moments and then you should see the download start. Once the download finishes, click "Launch" in the top right hand side of the window.
You should see a message similar to the one below saying to go to the Security - VPN settings on the computer to finish setting it up.
Close any windows or programs that are open.
On your computer: click the Windows icon (lower left hand corner of the screen) - Settings (icon looks like a gear) - go to Network & Internet – VPN
On the right hand side of the page click "Add VPN"
In the VPN provider field, select FortiClient
Connection name type: buvpn
Server name or address type: https://buvpn.brandonu.ca
Click Save
You should now have a new vpn connection made called buvpn, which will look similar to this:
Click the buvpn icon.
Click Connect.
Sign in with your username and password and click OK.
If you successfully connect, your screen will look like this:
To add a shortcut to the vpn settings on your Start Menu Tile icons, right click "VPN" in the left hand side of the window and choose pin to Start.
Close all open windows, and launch the vpn:
If you pinned the icon to the Start Menu, click the Windows icon in the lower left hand side of your screen then look to the tiles on the right of the pop-up and click VPN.
If you did not pin the icon to the Start Menu, you can open the vpn settings by typing "vpn" in the "Type here to search" field and select “VPN settings” from the list to connect each time.
Once you are back on the vpn screen, click "buvpn", connect and enter in your credentials
When you are done with the vpn, disconnect from it by going into the vpn settings and selecting "Disconnect"
If the network drives get red x’s on them, you get disconnected from remote desktop or you cannot access the workforce website, check back on the vpn settings to confirm it is connected, if it is not connected then connect again as the connection may have dropped.
