Through BU licensing, so long as you have a fully active staff or student account, you can install a copy of MS Office365 desktop applications on your personal device/computer.


Prerequisites


Windows: Any version of Windows 10, 8.1, or 8   

Mac OS: OSX 10.12 or newer



Quick Guide

1.Go to https://portal.brandonu.ca

2.Login with your BU email address and password

3.In the upper-right corner, click on Install Office, follow instructions on screen. Be ready to wait a bit, the install can take awhile depending on the speed of your internet connection.




Long Guide for Setting up Office365:

 

To set up your Office365 access:

  • Sign into https://portal.brandonu.ca in any browser 
  • Within the upper-right corner, click “Install Office apps” button
  • When prompted, click the link titled “Start ->”
  • When prompted, uncheck the Bing and MSN boxes if you wish to keep your search and homepage settings, and click “Install Now” (optional) If you don’t wish to have the program installed, you can navigate back to mail.

  • The office 365 install file will be downloaded, open and run it. If it does not show up on the bottom left of your screen (as shown below) look in your downloads folder.

  • On the following screen click “Next”
  • Choose “Use recommended settings and click “Accept”
  • Click “Next” again
  • Choose a theme if you wish, and click “Next”
  • If you would like a quick tour of Office 365 choose “Take a look”, otherwise choose “No, thanks”
  • Office 365 will finish set up and return you to the Office 365 home page


When you first open an Office 365 app you may be prompted to login with your BU email and password. This finalizes the install and activates the MS Office programs to your account.
