Through BU licensing, so long as you have a fully active staff or student account, you can install a copy of MS Office365 desktop applications on your personal device/computer.


Prerequisites


Windows: Any version of Windows 10 or 11

Mac OS: OSX 10.12 or newer



Quick Guide

  1. Go to https://www.microsoft365.com/
  2. Login with your BU email address and password
  3. Click the 'Apps' icon, then click on 'Install apps' from the upper-right corner of the window.  Select 'Microsoft 365 Apps'. Click 'Install Office' and follow the instructions on the screen. Be ready to wait a bit, the install can take awhile depending on the speed of your internet connection.



Long Guide for Setting up Office365:

 

To set up your Microsoft 365 Apps access:

  • Sign into https://www.microsoft365.com/ in any browser 
  • Click the 'Apps' icon
  • Towards the upper-right corner, click “Install apps
  • From the drop-down list select 'Microsoft 365 apps'
  • Select "Install Office"
  • The office setup file will download - "OfficeSetup.exe" (depends on your operating system, shows a pkg file on mac)
  • Opening this file it will ask for permission to make changes to your device, click "Yes"
  • The program will continue to download and install Office 365 applications one by one


When you first open an Office 365 app you may be prompted to login with your BU email and password. This finalizes the install and activates the MS Office programs for your account.
