First of all you need to setup your Team and manage the people in the team for who you want to give access.

You may want to read our guide on how to move files from N to OneDrive especially if you are going to use the sync method for transfer.

This is also a good time to do some cleanup and eliminate files you don't need to keep as then there would be less to transfer over.

Next you want to plan and organize who is moving the files and when. You don't want to be saving some files on T: and others in Teams, and not knowing which version is the current file. Likewise you don't want to have copies in both locations or you'll run into the same issue.

For adding files and folders into Teams it is pretty easy, but there are multiple options:.
  • You can drag a file into it
  • You can upload a file into it
  • You can sync it to your computer's OneDrive and manipulate it the way you're probably used to. (directly in Windows File Explorer)
Finally, you should verify that the file has been transferred and see if you still left a copy of it on T: or if you "moved" it.

To get started you just click on the Teams channel where you want to put the files and click "Files" at the top. You'll get a screen looking something like this:

So you can drag files there as it says, or click the upload button near the top to upload folders or files. Note that this may take a while to upload depending on how large and how many folders/files you try to upload at once. Once you move the files there and they have finished uploading you're done!

For the sync method it's a bit more complicated to setup initially, but then it works more like how you have used it in the past.

  1. First you would click on that same screen where it says "open in sharepoint" (you need to click the ... ellipsis if you can't see that choice
  2. Next you need to click where it says "Sync" on the next page that pops up as shown below:

  3. Now you should be able to open Windows File Explorer and see something like this. Make sure to expand the one shown:
  4. Now it should be syncing that folder (currently empty) to your computer:
  5. Just move the files from T: into that folder now and they'll show up in Teams as they synch (This can take a long time). You can then access them anytime by just opening that folder or from Teams directly.
